The poetry anthology Brown Eyes, Amor: Volume 1-In My Lifetime by the indomitable Akilah Miles takes us right to the core of life and living. My favorite piece is entitled "The Grind." It begins thus: "Every day that I wake up I must commit to my grind." True words, no sugar coat. Through this period of Corona quarantine I find myself waking up to this newfound anthem and it gives me the strength to face the strangeness of these times, whether the day brings fear, frustration, laziness or ennui. Thank you, Miss Akilah, for sharing your strength and wisdom so courageously!
